TV shows I anticipate in Fall 2010

1. Eastbound & Down, Season 2 (premieres September 26, HBO) - Season 1 has been out for over a year, and honestly I enjoyed this show way more than I thought I would. Danny McBride's love affair with oblivious, self-indulgent white America has blossomed into something truly hilarious. The cliffhanger ending to Season 1 gives plenty of room for adventure in Season 2. And I can't wait to see more from Stevie Janowski.

2. Boardwalk Empire, Season 1 (premieres September 19, HBO) - Scorcese is generally on point, although he is only signed on to direct the pilot episode. I'm glad to see Steve Buscemi in a leading role, I always thought he was held back as a sidekick. Michael K. Williams is in it, and I really liked him as Omar Little in The Wire. It looks sort of like a combination of The Wire and Public Enemies, actually. I like crime series and this looks like it'll have some gangster shit in it, as well as conflicted characters, which are always interesting to watch.

3. Dexter, Season 5 (premieres September 26, ShowTime) - I like this show, but based on the trailer from ShowTime, I'm pretty skeptical about this season. Season 4 was good (although not the series' best) and ended very dramatically. I'm interested to see how everything plays out, but we've seen Dexter Morgan work under police scrutiny before so this really feels like a retread of Season 2 before it's even started.

Bonus! Bored To Death, Season 2 (premieres September 26, HBO) - I've only seen a few episodes of Season 1, but so far I've enjoyed it. Positioning this series between Boardwalk Empire and Eastbound will guarantee that I see at least the first few episodes. Jason Schwartzman is likeable and Ted Dansen is hilarious.
